Public Health Administrator

The Stephenson County Board of Health is seeking an experienced professional for the position of Public Health Administrator.  The Health Department, with fifty-three employees, provides an array of public health services to the citizens of Stephenson County. 

The position reports directly to the Stephenson County Board of Health.  The position provides overall leadership, guidance and direction to the Board of Health, staff, elected and appointed officials, governmental and voluntary agencies, and the community at large on all matters pertaining to public health.  The Public Health Administrator serves as the CEO of the County Health Department.  www.stephensoncountyil.gov/departments/health_department

 Qualifications of Ideal Candidate:

  • Working knowledge of public health assessment, grant making, and reporting.
  • Detailed knowledge of federal, state, and local statutes, rules and regulations relating to environmental protection and public health.
  • Strong leadership and motivational skills. 
  • Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, verbally, in writing and orally. 
  • Ability to problem solve for complex problems.
  • Ability to promote and maintain positive and effective working relationships among the board, staff, and citizens.
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive collaborative relationships with professional, governmental, and other community groups. 
  • Ability to handle stress and serve the public, patients, clients, contractors, customers and other constituents with dignity, respect, and competence.

  Education & Experience

Preferred:  Master’s degree in public health, public administration, or closely related field; strong leadership and organizational skills and a minimum of two years of experience in upper-level management in a public health setting. 

Minimum:  Bachelor’s degree in public health, public administration, or closely related field (nursing, health education, environmental health, community health), and four years’ experience in management, two of which must be in public health. 

 Salary

Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
